Anna Starkey is a multi-disciplinary creative practitioner connecting ideas across art and science. Their work is driven by big questions, and explores the potential energy of ‘not knowing.’ Anna is interested in shifting power by enabling collective curiosity and imagination.
As a writer, they are currently working on two poetry pamphlets and a hybrid autofiction piece. Anna was shortlisted for the Disabled Poetry Prize 2024 for their pamphlet, All these Frequencies.
Previously, Anna was Creative Director of We the Curious, leading the transformation of a science centre to open up science as part of culture. Starting out with degrees in Physics and Science Communication, via a few years performing sketch comedy, Anna then spent a decade working in TV as a script editor, voice director and BAFTA nominated children’s animation writer. They produced the BBC Proms, live global cinema broadcasts from the Royal Opera House and the first series of BBC Young Dancer.
Anna has delivered a TEDx talk on curiosity, worked as a particle physics communicator, and produced live data-taking events as Director of Impossible Projects for a pioneering public neuroscience laboratory.
With a deep interest in how we can all transition to more liberatory and equitable ways of working and organising, Anna is currently part of a funded Stewarding Collective exploring Transformational Governance.
Anna is co-Chair of We Are Unlimited Arts - an organisation backing and commissioning disabled artists to make extraordinary work until the rest of the sector does.
